For whom is the martial art suitable?
The training of Escrima is based on the knowledge that a physical confrontation is decided in advance by the inner mental attitude in about 95 percent of the cases. This basis also justifies the orientation of the training, because the mental resilience should also be strengthened and trained in this martial art.
Escrima pursues the goal of strengthening the self-confidence of the participants through strategic learning. Specific exercises for better stress management are also on the plan. Exuding a stronger sense of self-confidence and keeping a cool head even in stressful situations can ideally help you never have to use your physical Escrima skills. If this should be the case, you will be prepared for exactly this situation in a targeted training.
During the training you will also learn the following aspects:
- Handling a weapon
- Respect for a weapon
- Fear reduction
- Fitness
- Suppleness
- Movement coordination
Escrima can basically be learned by anyone – regardless of age, gender, physical fitness and constitution. Since only natural movements are taught, they can be learned by anyone. You do not need acrobatic or athletic skills for this martial art. The only requirement you should bring is the willingness to learn something new.
In addition, time should be planned to learn the martial art. How long you need to become really good at Escrima cannot be said in general. However, you should plan about two to five years – as for most other martial arts – with regular training.
