Who is Jiu Jitsu suitable for?

The most important feature of Jiu Jitsu is that you do not use force against force. Instead, you try to use the attacker’s force against himself by yielding. Accordingly, jiu jitsu does not require as much physical strength because you must yield and dodge. Of course, kicking and punching techniques are also trained, but the focus is on throwing the opponent to the ground with certain leverage and throwing techniques.

In principle, Jiu Jitsu is suitable for everyone, because there are no special requirements.

  • Children as young as six can learn the martial art. Children and teenagers up to 13 years of age learn Jiu Jitsu in a playful way.
  • Even at an older age there are practically no restrictions: Retired people can also still enter the martial art without any problems.
  • This martial art is also suitable for women, since not too much own strength is required.

The risk of injury is low with this martial art, as long as you have some discipline. From experience, it takes two to four years to learn this martial art in such a way that it will really benefit you in practice.

Conclusion: “Winning by giving in”

Jiu Jitsu provides you with a wide range of possibilities for self-defense as well as peaceful conflict resolution. The latter is achieved primarily by strengthening your self-confidence.

The martial art pursues the goal of making the attacker harmless in an efficient way. It does not matter whether he is armed or not. For this purpose, throwing, leverage, pushing, kicking, choking and punching techniques are combined. In this way you bring the attacker under control and finally make him unable to fight.

The crucial thing in Jiu Jitsu is not to use force against force, but to follow the principle of “winning by yielding”. Accordingly, as much of the attacker’s force as possible is used against him.
